Division Layout – David Arday’s Eagle Pass RR

Layouts

The HO scale Eagle Pass RR is set somewhere in the southwestern U.S., in the early to mid 1960s. I wasn’t too rigid in making sure everything is entirely accurate for that time period, nor did I absolutely followed any prototype. But I tried to capture the look and feel of that region and time. Visually, the Eagle Pass consists of two scenes, a small desert town and an uninhabited mountainous area, located on opposite sides of the table. They are separated by a ridge line running at a slight diagonal down the middle.

The layout is a simple oval with a passing siding and two spurs. Started 20 years ago, it is wired for single cab DC with blocks. Two engines can be on the layout at a time, but only one can operate, while the other is parked on either the siding or in a spur. Although the layout is only 4×6 ft., with one fixed and two mobile backdrop sections, I can photograph it from multiple angles, making it look bigger than it is.
